I'll tell you what, until recently - as a married mother to the father of my children w/ft j-o-b (tell me it isn't so...) I can (almost) never find the time to make palatable sense of the break-from-the-fast drama. I am just too busy! BUT - I do believe in my heart of hearts of this requirement to nourish the being that I am currently possessed with. I really seem to thrive; in myself and my workday, if sustained with some exquisite nourishment in the early hours. My secret? I often eat miso soup or seaweed soup (a personal favorite) to get the bodily fluids moving. Rice milk and whole grains are often in the personal gruel bowl on my desk in the early hours too. And all right, I'll confess, there are really only two kinds of left-over pizza that occassionally appear there as well; ok, well, yeah - either hot or cold. (It's a weakness, I confess.) This is a struggle as I am currently trying to eliminate dairy -no pun intended from my diet. I would love to hear from other like minded souls of nourishing, protein enriched and vitamin packed starts to the day. Kippers for breakfast - Mommy dear? Yup, I've done that with a bit of warmed brown rice too when the mood strikes me. Tea anybody?

Never could tolerate milk as a beverage, or, poured on anything; so I grew up avoiding cereal and anything with it, in a bowl! As a young adult I began skipping breakfast because the other traditional menus just weren't appetizing. Somewhere along the way, like you folks, I discovered that the dinner leftovers from the night before looked really good, first thing in the morning! Spent a few years overseas in Eastern Europe and learned that tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, beets and thinly sliced servings of beef, pork or lamb were delicious in the morning with a nice homegrown herb tea such as mint, chamomile, raspberry and so forth. Hurrah for veggies and grains for breakfast!

I'm with you, Chef Stephen! I love savory stuff for breakfast. When I was a teen, I went through a phase of demanding chili and rice every morning before school. Mom was thrilled, as you can imagine... Nowadays, I'll enjoy whatever is in the fridge; Indian food is a favorite.
